Jazz Standard Gig, New albums, Fall shows

Hi everyone!

We are really excited to let you know that a newish quartet of mine featuring Matt Mitchell on piano, Chris Lightcap on bass and the inimitable Nasheet Waits on drums will be premiering some new music as well as some older originals at New York City’s famed Jazz Standard on Wednesday, September 2nd! This will be my first gig as a leader there, and it will serve as a kind of CD release show for Behind the Sky, my upcoming CD on Irabbagst Records. Two sets at 7:30 and 9:30, and great food! Please go to the Jazz Standard website for more info and tickets (reservations are a good idea).

I’ve got TWO new CDs coming out this fall! The aforementioned “Behind the Sky” has the one and only Tom Harrell on trumpet and flugelhorn, Luis Perdomo on piano, Yasushi Nakamura on bass and Rudy Royston on drums and features 11 original compositions in the modern, mainstream jazz style (ish). ¬†Here’s a track from the record!

On the other end of the spectrum, the other CD being simultaneously released is a highly experimental solo sopranino saxophone CD called “Inaction is an Action.” Check out an early review of the record here, where it’s called “utterly fascinating.”

Also coming out this year are a record from the Barry Altschul 3Dom Factor, as well as the new Dave Douglas Quintet record, and a new octet recording by the Mary Halvorson Octet. Stay in touch for more updates and CD release shows for these!!
